Why Australia Doesn't Make Their Own Cars
Rate itMember ratings
Once upon a time, the Australian automobile industry employed 100,000 people. They produced tens of thousands of vehicles for both domestic consumption and export abroad. The cars were uniquely suited for the Australian market, and they were prized in the country's rural areas. But now that industry has vanished. The last factories, operated by Toyota and GM, closed in 2017. Other than a few units produced for national security purposes, the Australian car-making industry has all but vanished.
